A new addition to our store, Primal Cannabis provides us with Distillate & Full Spectrum Distillate Vape Carts for our patients, with over 15+ strains there are quite a few to choose from. Today we're going to break down our initial impressions of these cartridges from their overall quality to the quality of the effects from these cartridges.
One thing to keep in mind is Carts are not all the Primal Cannabis produces, they also produce a variety of different flower, pre-roll & concentrate options as well. However today we are going to focus on their 1g cartridges as they are the primary product we carry from Primal Cannabis as of this review.
Primal Cannabis was established in 2018 in NW Oklahoma, boasting a 90-acre outdoor production, 20,000 sq ft indoor production, 30,000 sq ft greenhouse production, and 15,000 g/per week full spectrum CO2 extraction production. Primal Cannabis a truly a big player in the Oklahoma Cannabis market.
In their own words: "Located just outside of Enid, OK, Primal Cannabis is a small business family operation. We are farmers, ranchers, entrepreneurs, and cowboys with 1 mission…to change the lives of all that experience Primal Cannabis."
With a little introduction out of the way let's talk about some of their carts:
First, we think it's beneficial to know that not all cartridges are created equal, there is actually quite a large difference in the process of making all the different types of cannabis cartridges that you see on dispensary shelves. From different processing types to different forms of cannabis altogether, there is definitely a lot to unpack.
Thankfully we're just going to be looking at 2 today without going into too much detail on all the minor differences between the products, if you want to learn more about the difference between all the different cartridges feel free to check out our Education page and we will be writing an article here on the blog soon for them as well so we can focus solely on discussing different types of concentrates.
Starting on the Distillate side of things, Leafy defines distillate as "A cannabis distillate cart is a highly refined oil containing pure cannabinoids and almost nothing else. The upside to using distillates in vaporizer cartridges is that the oil can be produced from a range of starting materials."
Virtually any cannabis oil variety from CO2 to BHO and everything in between can be purified into a distillate with the right equipment.
Distillate, however, does not typically contain the Natural Terpenes found in the strain you may be looking at, typically with distillate vape carts they are also re-infused with food-grade terpenes vs the natural terpenes that exist in live resin and full spectrum cartridges.
Because of this, distillate carts tend to smell and taste very sweet and don't usually give off a strong cannabis odor when used, on top of this you will be missing out on some of the potential medicinal benefits of naturally existing terpenes.
There's a lot of different information out there on this topic and a lot of different definitions of what defines a Distillate Cart, we definitely think Leafy gets the definition correctly since we do run a dispensary every day and educate our patients on the products some trends that are very obvious, especially in the testing is the overall terpene potency.
Typically these carts reach between 1%-8% which in our experience while consuming feels closer to 1%-3% due to the terpenes being artificial/food grade terpenes, however, we also understand this will be different depending on the user since everyone's endocannabinoid system has elements that is unique to them.
Primal Cannabis carries a variety of flavors (our favorites being the Twisted Citrus & Sour Mango) which range between 0%-0.7% terpenes and anywhere from 60%-80% THC, these flavors taste great and are even a bit stronger on the flavor than some of their pricier competitors. Primal can definitely hold their own against more expensive brands and do it very well while also saving the customer money due to the easy-to-use simple packaging, kudos Primal!
Overall the carts are great and for newer users who may not need the heavier effects that you get from Live Resin Cartridges, or when it comes to things like public consumption and you don't want everyone in your immediate vicinity knowing there's the smell of cannabis in the air; or if flavor is your preference we don't blame you, they taste amazing!

Moving down to their Full Spectrum carts, Primal Cannabis offers a wide variety of Full Spectrum cartridges, currently, we carry about 10-15 different strains in store on these carts.
Full Spectrum means that while the THC is still going to be a distillate, Full Spectrum contains all of the cannabinoids used for strain-specific effects. One important thing to note about “full-spectrum” is that there is no regulation guiding what “full-spectrum” is defined to be. Unlike the term “Organic”, anyone can claim their product is “full-spectrum”. Therefore it is critical the source provides trusted third-party analytics (full testing) with the product.
Primal offers a good selection of strain options when it comes to their full spectrum cart options, the flavor on these is well balanced, while still tasting and definitely smelling more like cannabis smoke these carts are very good when it comes to balancing good flavor with potent effects. With some brands, we have found that they taste like straight burnt smoke which for a lot of full spectrum and live resing lovers can be a big turn-off.
Primal manages to mitigate this very well by having some excellent flavor with their full spectrum options (we really like the Pineapple Diesel & Northern Lights).
The hit on their full spectrum carts is surprisingly well-rounded and smooth, personally, we felt like the effects were somewhere between their distillate carts and a good live resin cart, airing more on the live resin side as we only needed a couple of hits to really start feeling the effects of these strains. Personally, I've been using the Pineapple Diesel in conjunction with a live resin cart from Origin Extracts in my Duplo H20 and the mix is absolutely fantastic.
Terpene wyse their full spectrum carts to contain "native Terpenes" which are unique to the individual strains and are also part of what provides the potential medicinal benefits you find in cannabis. On average most of Primal's full spectrum carts sit around 8%-9% terps on average.
If you are someone who is searching for something with the potential medical benefits that cannabis has or you just favor something a bit stronger without sacrificing good flavor then we would highly recommend these carts.
Overall their Full Spectrum carts are by far my favorite offering from Primal Cannabis, they are well-balanced, extremely affordable (same price as their distillate counterpart!), well made and have excellent flavor across the board!
